Shelbyville Family Photographer - The Vannatta Family

In the south, it seems everyone claims any kind of relative as a "cousin." Somehow, we're all cousins of some sort, whether it be actual cousins, or we-have-the-same-last-name-and-its-a-small-town-so-we-must-be cousins. Since the term is so general, I hesitate to use it when I tell folks of my first cousins, Drew & Tyler. There aren't many of us first cousins, and for the most part, we've all grown up together right here on the farm, celebrating every holiday, birthday, and many a Sunday lunch all in my Granny's kitchen. So this past year, when Tyler announced that he'd be joining the Air Force, we were all simultaneously very proud to see him make such a huge step in life and a little sad to know he'd be moving away from us. So a few days before he left for basic training, I went over to his house to take pictures of him with his parents and girlfriend and brother. I love this session, not just because it's my own sweet family, but because I think it's important for families to keep having portraits made together, even when the kids are adults too. By the way, I'm happy to report that, since arriving on base, Tyler has excelled at every task he's been given, and is at the top of his class.
